Project experience
UCL Biomedical Building – Institute of Neurology & Dementia Research
Nexus provided commercial and project management support to Powell Systems Engineering on UCL's major biomedical research hub in central London.

Scope of involvement
Our involvement combined commercial strategy, contract administration, procurement support, and operational coordination across a complex MEP package.
- Contract Administration – Full contract oversight aligned with Mace's main contract terms and UCL's governance requirements.
- Variation Management – Identification, pricing, substantiation, and negotiation of complex MEP variations across mechanical, electrical, and BMS scopes.
- Procurement Support – Subcontractor tendering, tender packs, scope breakdowns, analysis, and package alignment.
- Package Strategy & Tender Reviews – Review of incoming quotes and clarifications, with advice on scope gaps, programme risk, and commercial viability.
- Valuation & Applications – Oversight of interim payment applications and validation of measurable progress.
- Final Account Negotiation – Commercial closeout strategy to secure recoverable value while reducing legacy package exposure.
- Client & Consultant Liaison – Transparent reporting and clean audit trails across Powell, Mace, and UCL's consultant team.
The £35m MEP project forms part of UCL's world-class research hub for neurology and dementia, delivered within a constrained urban environment requiring meticulous planning and coordination.
