Project experience
University of Sussex – West Slope Residences
On the West Slope residential project led by Balfour Beatty, Nexus provided Powell Systems with subcontract advisory support under a hybrid NEC arrangement.

Scope of involvement
The work focused on identifying risk early, strengthening commercial clarifications, and preparing the package team for change and delay management.
- Contractual Risk Review – Clause-by-clause commentary covering termination, delay exposure, and payment barriers.
- Tender Advisory – Review of the BMS package and programme assumptions, with commercial clarifications to protect Powell's position.
- Forecast & Delay Planning – Preparation for compensation event notices and extension entitlement.
- Legal & Financial Protection – Administrative readiness for variations, suspensions, and final account negotiation.
This high-density student accommodation scheme required long-term forecasting and agile commercial protection under non-standard NEC terms.
